SODIUM TUNGSTATE DIHYDRATE

Sodium tungstate dihydrate (Na₂WO₄ ⋅ 2H₂O) is a versatile chemical used primarily as an intermediate to extract tungsten. It acts as a catalyst for chemical oxidations, a corrosion inhibitor, and a raw material for pigments and fire retardants. It also serves as a reagent for precipitating proteins in analytical chemistry.

  • Organic Synthesis & Catalysis: Used alongside hydrogen peroxide to epoxidize alkenes and oxidize alcohols into aldehydes and ketones.
  • Industrial Manufacturing: Functions as a chemical modifier to extend the life of graphite tubes, a deoxidizer in steel production, and a color-fixer in inks and textiles.
  • Electronics & Coatings: Used in electroplating to deposit tungsten layers on metals, which significantly improves corrosion and wear resistance.
  • Healthcare & Research: Employed in biomedical research for its potential anti-diabetic effects and in pharmaceutical development as an enzyme inhibitor.
